02/01/2001 DataTech Solutions Help Merck & Company With Mail Room Receiving Application
DataTech Solutions integrates mailroom barcode receiving application in Merck & Companies Church street facility. The Church street facility; located in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, recently added the ability to scan the items from the multiple carriers as they come in the door. The manual process of entering data into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, once a full day of work, now takes minutes. Since the Church Street facility receives upwards of 75 items a day, DataTech Solutions devised a system that utilized two-way data communication. Thus, allowing the Merck staff to upload a file of all employees and their locations. Upon receiving an item, the user selects which carrier brought the item and then scans the tracking barcode. Then, they simply select which employee it is to be distributed to. Using the two way communication allows Merck to update their carriers and employee list at any time; thus, there is no programming time. “With this application, we will be able to save valuable time that we have been wasting for years”, said Richard Grammes, Merck & Companies Church street facility’s mailroom supervisor. DataTech Solutions used Symbol Technologies 3100 barcode scanner for the hardware. The application uses DataTech Solutions CommServer communication’s software to communicate between the PDT and the PC.
